Owen's first trip to Ohio

This past Wednesday through Friday Mike took a few days off work and we headed to Ohio to visit his family. We left our house around 6:30 a.m Wednesday morning after Owen's first feeding and made it there in just over five hours. Lucky for us, Owen provided us with some excitement on the way there-a massive blowout in the carseat. Let me tell you, there is nothing like cleaning crap off of your child (it was on his arms, all down his legs, on his face...I'm talking MASSIVE) and nursing in the parking lot of a gas station. We were able to clean the carseat well enough for him to ride the rest of the way in, but it had to me disassembled as soon as we got there.

On Wednesday, Mike's mom organized a birthday dinner for me filled with my favorite foods and a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. Tom, Jessica and Taylor drove down to help us celebrate and we had a great time! We had a great visit, but the only downside was Owen stopped sleeping through the night while we were there. This was really disappointing to me, but I suppose he was just in a strange place and he only sleeps in a crib normally. I am hoping he will get back on track now that we are home. Here are some highlights from the trip.

On Friday night, after I put Owen down for the night, me, Mike, Tom, Jessica, Abby (Mike's cousin) and her hubby Justin, Doug (Mike's cousin) and one of Mike's friends from high school all headed to the local hole in the wall bar called the Acorn. We had a great night out and all indicators suggest we went through roughly 17 pitchers of beer! Wow!

On Saturday night, Mike's parents hosted a party for friends and family to get together to meet Owen and celebrate Mike's dads retirement. We were able to see lots of people and Owen was very well behaved!

Mike's cousin Abby had her third child (first little girl) three weeks to the day after Owen was born. Her name is Lucy and she is the sweetest little thing. We were so excited to finally meet her and will hopefully be able to go visit them in Columbus, Oh this fall!

Mike's friends from high school had their second child seven hours after Owen was born. Her name is Mallory and she didn't make a peep the entire time they were there. SIDENOTE: has anyone noticed how Owen has his fists clinched in both of the pictures where there are other babies and he is giving them the death stare. I hope he isn't going to be a little bully-especially to girls!!!

Uncle Mike was the hit of the party when he was teaching the girls how to roll down the hill!

It is so cute how little kids play and interact with one another, especially when they don't know each other. Taylor and Madison (Mike's friends from high schools oldest daughter) really took to one another.
